Smart Solutions for Over a Half Century
Founded in 1954, Greenwald Industries helped create and nurture what is known today as the coin-operated laundry industry. While laundries still represent our largest customer base, we have broadened our base by developing coin-vending applications for other markets and expanded our expertise into smart card technology and applications. Greenwald’s roots stem from Brooklyn, New York, where the company operated for more than 40 years. In 1996, we moved to a larger modern facility in Chester, Connecticut, on the banks of the Connecticut River. Joining us at our new facility are many of the same employees who had helped the company grow and prosper in New York.
An Industry was Born
At the outset of the commercial laundry business, operators purchased ordinary washers and dryers, then ordered and installed coin-operating equipment on site. Greenwald was instrumental in convincing several washer and dryer manufacturers to produce special units for commercial laundries. To this day, we are proud to have among our customers and partners such well-known companies as General Electric, Maytag, Speed Queen and Whirlpool. Because of our combined efforts, the coin operated laundry industry has flourished, providing a valuable service to consumers across the land who, at one time or another, need common laundry facilities. From initiation, Greenwald products have been widely respected for their quality, durability and dependability. In addition to well-known laundry applications, Greenwald products are also used for dispensing of postage stamps, variety stickers in arcades, and luggage carts in airports.
Responding to Changing Times
In recent years, Greenwald has implemented the principals of lean thinking to re-engineer our operations and improve all aspects of the way we deliver our products and services to our customers. In addition, Greenwald embarked on an exciting revitalization of our product line, accomplished through the acquisition of Intellicard, Ltd., an innovator of SmartCard payment systems. The SmartCard technology is used extensively world-wide.
Acquisition of Summit Manufacturing
In 2006, Greenwald Industries acquired the Summit Group - manufacturers of oven latches, oven door switches and oven smoke eliminators for residential applications. The complete product line offers custom "clean sheet" design of OEM subassemblies, and custom modification of existing designs and manufacture. The custom-designed OEM subassemblies are mechanical, electromechanical, and/or electronic.
